- 1 cup honey
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Combine walnuts and cinnamon in a bowl. Set aside.
- Brush a 9x13 inch baking dish with melted butter. Layer 2 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish and brush with butter. Repeat this process until you have 8 sheets layered.
- Sprinkle a thin layer of the walnut mixture over the phyllo dough.
- Add 2 more sheets of phyllo dough on top, brush with butter, and sprinkle with walnuts. Continue this layering process until the walnuts are used up, finishing with a top layer of at least 4-6 sheets of phyllo brushed with butter.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes all the way to the bottom of the pan.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes until golden and crisp.
- While the baklava is baking, combine honey, water, sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon juice in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
