- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest

- In a medium saucepan, combine the water and sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
